A comprehensive heat pump service goes beyond a simple visual check. We verify the refrigerant charge by measuring suction and discharge pressures against manufacturer specifications for the current ambient temperature. Deviations indicate a potential leak or incorrect charge from the original installation.
We check the condition of the evaporator and condenser coils. Outdoor evaporator coils accumulate dirt, leaves, and debris which restrict airflow and reduce heat transfer efficiency. Indoor condensers in split systems can also collect dust, particularly in properties with pets or high-traffic areas.
Electrical testing includes verifying compressor winding resistance, capacitor values, contactor condition, and the integrity of all wiring connections. We also check the earth continuity and insulation resistance of the installation to ensure ongoing electrical safety.

Many systems we service have never had their weather compensation properly set up, meaning they run at unnecessarily high flow temperatures — wasting energy and reducing the COP.
For systems with a hot water cylinder, we check the immersion heater function, the heat pump's DHW priority settings, and the legionella protection cycle. Incorrect settings here often result in the immersion heater running unnecessarily, significantly increasing electricity costs.
