    What This Service Covers

Swimming pool heat pump servicing is planned maintenance designed to keep your unit operating at peak efficiency throughout the swimming season. Pool heat pumps work harder than domestic heating units — running for long periods in humid, chemically aggressive environments — making regular servicing essential.

This service is for pool owners who want their heat pump to start reliably each spring, run efficiently through summer, and last as long as possible. Whether you have a domestic garden pool or a commercial facility, annual servicing catches developing problems before they cause mid-season failures.

During a service visit, we inspect the refrigerant circuit, clean the evaporator coil, check electrical connections, verify water flow rates, inspect the titanium heat exchanger for scaling, test safety controls, and ensure the controller settings are optimised for your pool size and usage pattern.

We service all major pool heat pump brands including Zodiac, Hayward, Calorex, Thermotec, Fairland, and BWT across Hampshire and surrounding counties.

    What Happens If You Wait?

Pool heat pumps that are not serviced annually lose efficiency progressively. A coil clogged with debris, a slowly leaking refrigerant charge, or corroding electrical connections all reduce output without triggering obvious fault symptoms.

The most common mid-season breakdown we attend is a compressor failure caused by running with low refrigerant charge. This is entirely preventable with an annual service that checks pressures and detects leaks early.

Scaling on the titanium heat exchanger — caused by hard water common in Hampshire and Berkshire — reduces heat transfer and increases running costs. Left unchecked, severe scaling can restrict water flow to the point where the safety cut-out activates.

Pool heat pumps stored over winter without proper preparation can suffer freeze damage to the heat exchanger, corroded connections, and pest ingress. A pre-season service ensures everything is in working order before you need it.

    How We Work

    1

    Pre-Season Scheduling

We contact you in early spring to schedule your service before the swimming season begins, ensuring your system is ready when you need it.

    2

    Full System Inspection

Evaporator coil cleaned, refrigerant pressures checked, electrical connections inspected and tightened, water flow rates verified.

    3

    Heat Exchanger Check

Titanium heat exchanger inspected for scaling and corrosion. Descaling carried out if required to restore heat transfer efficiency.

    4

    Controls & Safety Verification

Thermostat calibration, defrost settings, high/low pressure cut-outs, and flow switch operation all tested.

    5

    Report & Recommendations

Written service report provided detailing findings, work completed, and any recommendations for attention.

    Why It Matters

    Reliable Season Start

Your pool heat pump is tested and confirmed working before the season begins — no surprises when you want to swim.

    Maximum Efficiency

Clean coils, correct refrigerant charge, and optimised settings mean your heat pump heats your pool using the minimum energy.

    Breakdown Prevention

Developing faults are caught and corrected before they cause a mid-season failure that leaves your pool cold.

    Extended Equipment Life

Regular maintenance significantly extends the working life of your pool heat pump, protecting your investment.

    F-Gas Compliance

Annual refrigerant checks and leak testing keep your system compliant with current regulations.

    Cost Savings

A well-maintained pool heat pump costs less to run and avoids the expense of emergency repairs.

    Technical Detail & Expertise

Pool heat pump evaporator coils operate outdoors and are exposed to airborne debris, pollen, cottonwood seeds, grass clippings, and insects. Even a thin layer of debris significantly reduces airflow and heat absorption. We clean coils using low-pressure water and approved coil cleaners that do not damage the aluminium fins.

Refrigerant pressure testing is carried out with the system running and at steady state. We compare suction and discharge pressures against the manufacturer's specification for the current ambient and water temperatures. Deviations indicate refrigerant loss, restriction, or compressor issues.

The titanium heat exchanger is the component most affected by water quality. In areas with hard water — much of Hampshire and Berkshire — calcium carbonate deposits build up on the heat exchanger surfaces. We inspect using a torch and mirror, and where scaling is present, treat with appropriate descaling agents that are safe for titanium.

Electrical connections on pool heat pumps are particularly vulnerable to corrosion due to the humid environment. We inspect all terminal connections, measure contact resistance, and replace any corroded terminals or wiring. Capacitor values are tested as degraded capacitors cause compressor starting problems.

For inverter pool heat pumps, we also check the inverter board for signs of moisture ingress, insect damage, or component failure. We verify the unit is modulating correctly across its speed range and not running at fixed maximum speed (which would indicate a sensor or control fault).

We offer both one-off services and annual maintenance contracts. Contracts include a pre-season service, priority emergency response during the swimming season, and a discount on any parts or repairs needed.
