    What This Service Covers

Commercial air conditioning installation covers the design, supply, and fitting of cooling and climate control systems for business premises. This includes offices, retail units, restaurants, server rooms, medical practices, warehouses, and multi-tenancy buildings.

Unlike domestic installations, commercial projects require careful consideration of building regulations, workplace temperature compliance, system zoning for different areas, and integration with existing building management systems (BMS). The wrong system creates hot spots, cold zones, excessive noise, and employee complaints.

Craig Ball's career started in commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning before specialising in heat pumps. This means Appian Heat Pumps brings genuine commercial HVAC experience — not a domestic installer attempting commercial work.

We handle single-room installations through to full-building VRF/VRV systems. Every project includes a detailed site survey, load calculations, equipment specification, installation, commissioning, and handover with full compliance documentation.

    What Happens If You Wait?

Workplace temperature directly affects productivity, staff retention, and customer experience. Research consistently shows that employees in overheated offices make more errors and work more slowly. Retailers lose footfall when shops are uncomfortably warm.

Commercial systems that are undersized run continuously without achieving target temperatures, consuming excessive energy and wearing out prematurely. Oversized systems short-cycle, creating temperature fluctuations and wasting money.

Non-compliant installations expose your business to enforcement action. F-Gas regulations require all refrigerant-containing systems to be installed, maintained, and decommissioned by certified engineers. Records must be kept and made available on request.

Delaying installation during a fit-out or refurbishment means retrofitting later — which costs more, causes more disruption, and often results in compromised pipework routes and unit placement.

    How We Work

    1

    Site Survey & Requirements Analysis

We assess the premises, discuss your operational requirements, occupancy patterns, and any specific zoning or compliance needs.

    2

    System Design & Specification

Detailed heat load calculations, equipment selection, and a fixed-price proposal with timelines and minimal disruption planning.

    3

    Project-Managed Installation

Our team installs the system with minimal disruption to your operations. We coordinate with other trades if the project is part of a wider fit-out.

    4

    Commissioning & Compliance

Full commissioning, F-Gas leak testing, and verification of all zones. Compliance documentation provided for your records.

    5

    Handover & Ongoing Support

Staff training on controls, handover of all documentation, and optional ongoing maintenance contracts to keep your system compliant and efficient.

    Why It Matters

    Improved Productivity

Staff working in comfortable conditions make fewer errors, work faster, and report higher job satisfaction.

    Regulatory Compliance

F-Gas certified installation with full documentation. Workplace temperature obligations met from day one.

    Energy Cost Control

Correctly sized inverter systems adjust to demand, reducing energy consumption by up to 30% compared to fixed-speed alternatives.

    Minimal Business Disruption

We plan installations around your operating hours and complete work to agreed timescales — no open-ended projects.

    Zoned Climate Control

Different areas of your premises can be controlled independently — meeting rooms, server rooms, and customer-facing areas each at their optimal temperature.

    Long-Term Reliability

Commercial-grade equipment, professional installation, and planned maintenance mean your system performs reliably year after year.

    Technical Detail & Expertise

We install split systems, multi-split systems, VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) and VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) systems depending on the scale and complexity of the premises. Split and multi-split systems suit smaller offices and retail units. VRF/VRV systems are ideal for larger buildings requiring simultaneous heating and cooling in different zones.

Ceiling cassette units are the most common choice for commercial spaces, providing even air distribution without occupying wall space. Ducted systems are used where concealed installation is preferred, with grilles integrated into suspended ceilings. Wall-mounted and floor-standing units are used where ceiling access is limited.

For server rooms and IT environments, we design systems with redundancy — typically N+1 configurations where a standby unit activates automatically if the primary unit fails. These systems run 24/7/365 and require precise temperature and humidity control.

All commercial installations comply with Building Regulations Part L (conservation of fuel and power) and Part F (ventilation). Where required, we coordinate with building control and provide the necessary documentation for sign-off.

Refrigerant pipe runs in commercial installations are often longer and more complex than domestic work. We calculate equivalent pipe lengths including bends and height differences to ensure correct refrigerant charge and oil return. All joints are brazed or flared to manufacturer specifications and pressure-tested.

We also install fresh air ventilation systems alongside air conditioning where required. This is particularly relevant post-COVID for offices and public-facing businesses that need to demonstrate adequate ventilation rates.
